Paul B. O’Brien, age 77, of Kingston, formerly of Weymouth and Falmouth, passed peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family. Born in East Boston, he was a retired employee of the Boston Globe Newspaper Company, with a career spanning 47 years culminating in his role as Superintendent of the Pressroom. He enjoyed lifelong friendships with his colleagues and a passion for the newspaper industry. He was instrumental in the opening of the Globe Billerica Plant while an Assistant Foreman. He was a member of the Boston Newspaper Printing Pressmen’s Union No. 3 and a Charter Member of the Weymouth Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed his church and civic activism. He was also a past member of the Braintree Yacht Club and enjoyed boating and spending time on Cape Cod. He was a true family man and cherished time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren and all his family and friends through the years. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Margaret; his daughters, Elizabeth Daugherty of Derry, New Hampshire and Paula Haite of Kingston, as well as sons-in-law, Michael Daugherty and Lawrence Haite. He was much loved by his grandchildren, Jared, Ryan and Matthew Haite and Michael Daugherty, Jr. Paul was the brother of three deceased brothers; Francis, Joseph and Robert O’Brien and shared memorable occasions with family. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass which will be held at Saint Joseph’s Church, 272 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Thursday, September 4, 2014, at 10:00 AM. Interment services will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery, Green Street, Kingston. Ellicott City, MD – Lillian B. (Cook) Palm 95, formerly of Whitman, MA and Falmouth, MA, died Tuesday April 8 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold R. Palm. Born in Brockton and raised in Whitman she was the daughter of the late Milton R. and Rena C. (Emond) Cook. Lillian was a graduate of Whitman High School, Class of 1936 and furthered her education attending Burdett College and graduating in 1938. Lillian had divided her time between her summer home at New Silver Beach in North Falmouth and Whitman. She had been a lifelong and active member of the Whitman community, having been a member of the Mothers Club, the Woman’s Club and the Garden Club all of Whitman, and in later years she was active in the Whitman Senior Citizens Club. She is survived by her daughters Sheila Solomon of Ellicott City, MD and Gaynor O’Brien of Falmouth. She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. FALMOUTH – Marjorie C. (Arsenault) (Zuchowski) Jaslowich, 80, wife of Robert E. Jaslowich, of E. Falmouth, passed May 26, 2014 in Falmouth with her devoted loving husband at her side. Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bernadette (Godet) Arsenault. Following her graduation from Ste. Chretienne Academy in Salem, class of 1952, Marjorie enrolled in the Catherine Laboure Nursing School at Carney Hospital and graduated in 1955. She was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 30 years at the former Hancock House Nursing Home in Beverly and the Hunt Nursing and Retirement Home in Danvers. She was a foster parent for Catholic Charities for over 8 years. “Marjorie left an impression on so many hearts in her lifetime. She was the eternal caregiver always putting others first. To have been a part of her life was to have been blessed.” Marjorie and her husband Bob loved to take weekend trips in New England and enjoyed spending time at their summer home in Wells, Maine. She was a resident of Beverly for 30 years before moving to Falmouth, where she was a parishioner of St. Anthony Church. Besides her husband Bob, with whom she shared 15 years of marriage, she is survived by four children and their spouses, Cynthia Santoro Mitchell and her husband, Richard Mitchell of Topsfield and Clifton, NJ, Ellen Zuchowski of Reading, Neal and Kathleen Zuchowski of Auburn, NH, Lee and Kelly Zuchowski of Dover, NH, three stepchildren, Robbie Jaslowich, Melissa Kluge, both of Beverly, Wendy Thornton of Salem, 13 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, siblings and spouses, Howard Arsenault of Saugus, Armand and Dorreen Arsenault of Peabody, Mark and Karen Arsenault of York, Maine, Gloria Amorello and Carol and Jack Phillips, all of Chelsea and Joan Sarcia of Belmont, several nieces and nephews and Marjolein Van Dijk of Westmaas, Holland, whom Marjorie looked upon as another daughter. She was predeceased by her first husband, Stanley Zuchowski, sons, Steven and Kenneth Zuchowski, a brother, Rev. Raymond Arsenault and a sister, Marie Cormier. Michael James Tasha died suddenly at Cape Cod Hospital on October 30, 2014. He was 66. Born and raised in Provincetown, he was the son of the late William and Irene (Macara) Tasha. He graduated from Provincetown High School in 1966 and attended Bentley College. Mr. Tasha started out his career driving a truck for Cape Cod Oil in 1968. He and his wife purchased the company in 1974. Through hard work, determination and grit, Mike and his business partner, dear friend Regan Jason purchased Canal Fuel in Sagamore. These two beginning companies grew into a large enterprise on the Cape through the years. During his limited free time, Mike enjoyed working on classic autos or cruising along the Cape highways in one of his Mercury Cougars. Mike is survived by Halcyone Hurst Tasha with whom he raised two sons, Kabraul Macara Tasha, married to Julie (Lytle) and Hurst Michael Tasha, married to Cheryl (Meads). He also leaves behind grandchildren Mackenzie, Madison, Nathaniel, Anne, Hurst and Kabraul. He will be missed by Teresa Morris, his devoted companion of many years, her family and his many friends. Florence E. Keras, 91 FALMOUTH (formerly of WHITMAN) – Florence E. (Mahoney) Keras passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, after a challenging few years with COPD and emphysema. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years Joseph Keras, and three sisters: Agnes Brennan, Helen Vaughan, and Ann Tonello. Florence is survived by her beloved brother Robert Mahoney, her sister-in-law Frances Mahoney and her brother-in-law Vincent Tonello. She is also survived by her eight children and their families: Kathleen Teahan of Harwich Port, Eileen and Richard Kenealy of Whitman, Ann Sweeney of Falmouth, Sheila and Christopher Asselin of Goffstown, New Hampshire, Neil and Marie Keras of Falmouth, Anthony and Lori Keras of Marshfield, Mary and Dan Pimental of Falmouth, and Elizabeth and David Dmitruk of Taunton. Florence and Joe leave a beautiful legacy of 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. From the East Coast to the West Coast and from north to south, Florence leaves nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. She dedicated her life to her family. Mrs. Keras was born October 23, 1923, to John Joseph and Helen Marie (Wall) Mahoney in Franklin, Massachusetts. She was a 1941 graduate of Franklin High School and became a hairdresser after continuing her education at the Dr. Evelyn Ryan Murphy School of Cosmetology, Brockton, MA. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Falmouth, and Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Whitman. Florence was a member of the Falmouth Friday Quilters who donated their quilted creations to hospitalized or sick children who needed some extra love, and she baked cupcakes and served meals at Around the Table, a soup kitchen in Falmouth. Funeral services for Florence will be held on Wednesday, December 17 at 8:15 a.m. from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street, (Rte. 58@ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. in the Holy Ghost Church, School Street, Whitman. Visiting Hours are Tuesday December 16 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Family and Friends welcome. Born in Fall River, he was son of the late Stanley and Agnes (Szadowicz) Paruch. Mr. Paruch was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church in Fall River where he was a Eucharistic Minister, helped making pierogis and was a member of the St. Stanislaus Seniors and the Men’s Club. Phyllis was a Supervisor at Chelsea Industries in Chelsea for 30 years and retired in 1985. Beloved wife of the late John B. Moran. Hudson, MA Joaquim (Jack) dos Santos of Hudson, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday April 10, 2015 at Marlborough Hills Health Center. Jack was born in Porta Nova, Campanario, in the island of Madeira Portugal. Jack was a devoted family man who enjoyed working on his vegetable garden, caring for his fig trees, and fixing things. Jack’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and adoring his grandchildren. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carmina Isabel dos Santos. His four children; Joe Santos and his wife Cheryl of Hudson, Chuck Santos and his wife Shelly of Westford, Vera Leoleis and her husband Christe of Marlborough, and Mark Santos and his wife Amy of Falmouth. Jack is also survived by his six grandchildren Erica, Tyler, Austin, Michael, Matthew, and Alison. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Michael’s Parish Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson on Friday April 17th at 9:00AM. Mr. Leo “Rusty” Hooben, of Falmouth, died Saturday, June 6 in the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Carol A. (Arouca) Hooben. He was born 59 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Leo A. and Lois A. (Lovell) Hooben. He was educated in Taunton and had been a Falmouth resildent for the past 31 years. A self-employed Master Carpenter for most of his life, Leo owned and operated R & C Carpentry in Falmouth. In high school, he worked for the Great Elm Greenhouses in Brockton. He was a member of the Wareham Lodge of Elks. Leo enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, playing softball on the R & C Carpentry team, taking cross country trips, his many new cars, skiing, and socializing with his friends. He was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Parish in Taunton. In addition to his wife of 41 years, he leaves: 2 sons: Leo A. Hooben of So. Boston, and Derek H. Hooben and his companion, Meghan Pollard of Falmouth; 1 daughter: Shellie Lynn Hooben of Worcester; 2 brothers: Lawrence Hooben and his wife, Leona of Raynham, and Lester “Toby” Hooben and his wife, Colleen of Berkley; 4 sisters: Luanne Clark and her husband, Douglas of Attleboro, Linda Raposa and her husband, Charles of Taunton, Laura Holmes and her husband, Roger of Lakeville, and Leslie Hooben and her companion, John Smith of Taunton; 5 grandchildren: Collin Mastriano, Hailee Hooben, Michael Franks, Jacob Hooben, and Nevaeh Hicks, and several nieces and nephews. Lois M. (Rudolph) Richards, 90, of Falmouth formerly of Norfolk, died suddenly August 20 at Falmouth Hospital. She was the wife of the late Donald P. Richards who died in 2014. Born in Somerville, June 13, 1925, the daughter of the late Arthur and Amy (Griffiths) Rudolph, Mrs. Richards had lived in Norfolk since 1963 and moved to Falmouth after the passing of her husband last October. Lois and Donald had wintered in Marco Island, Florida for many years. Mrs. Richards had been an Accounting Manager at the John Hancock Insurance Company in Boston from the time of her high school graduation until retirement. She loved her job! Lois enjoyed crocheting, cruising, her 2 Maltese dogs and spending time with friends. Lois is survived by her brother Arthur Rudolph of Bradford, Harvey Rudolph of Sun City Center, Florida and her sister Eleanor Abbate of Mashpee. She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews. WEST FALMOUTH – Mary E. (Alves) Areias of West Falmouth, wife of the late Ivo S. Areias, died at Massachusetts General Hospital on Sept. 26, 2015 after a brief illness. She was seventy-six. Born and raised in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late John and Frances (Lima) Alves. Mary was educated in Taunton and was a 1957 graduate of Taunton High School. Employed by the Quality Beverage Company for many years, she retired in 1999. Mary was a communicant of St. Anthony Church in East Falmouth and was a member of the Portuguese American Club of Falmouth. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne M. Areias of W. Falmouth and Sharon A. Trahan of N. Attleboro; two sisters, Lillian Parent and her husband Norbert of Hobe Sound, FL and Adeline Osso and her husband John of N. Dighton; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful feline companions, Maisy and Molly. Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Thursday, Oct. 1st at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church, Middleboro Ave. in East Taunton at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton. TAUNTON – Dorothy L. (Grace) Avellar, wife of the late August B. Avellar, died at the Life Care Center of Raynham on Oct. 2, 2015. She was 86. Born in Falmouth, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Louse (Correia) Grace. Dorothy was educated in Falmouth schools before moving to the Taunton area many years ago. Employed by the former Geilech Tannery, she later worked as an attendant for the former Paul A Dever School for many years. Survivors include her son, Randy Avellar and his wife Sherri of Taunton; a daughter, Beverly J. Augenti and her husband William of Taunton; a stepson, Alan Avellar of Taunton; a stepdaughter, Joyce Fernandes of Taunton; a brother, Antone Graca of Taunton; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Victor A. Avellar and the sister of the late Margaret Lopes, Rose Grace, Hilda Greene and Anna Barrows. Funeral Services will take place at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Thursday, Oct. 8th at 11 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Neil Joseph Cronin, age 85, of Stoughton and Falmouth, MA, died on February 13, 2016, at Norwood Hospital after a serious illness. He leaves his wife, Kathleen Comeau Cronin, after 37 loving years of marriage. Born in 1930, in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Lt. Colonel Neil and Catherine O’Brien Cronin. Neil spent his early childhood in West Palm Beach. FL. Neil was a graduate of Roslindale High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree from St. John’s Seminary in Brighton and was ordained in 1955. He served his first ministry at St. Pius of Lynn followed by St. Matthews in Dorchester and St. Susannah’s in Dedham. He was appointed as ecumenical liaison to other religious denominations within the Greater Boston area. After choosing to leave the active ministry, he earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Columbia University. Neil served as Director of Social Services at the Massachusetts Hospital School in Canton and also established a private counseling practice. He was a member of the National Association of Social Workers. He is the brother of the late Patricia Dempsey and John Cronin. He leaves 12 devoted nieces and nephews in addition to the late John Cronin of New Jersey and Neil Cronin of California. Neil was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed many happy hours boating to the islands of Cape Cod with family and friends. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Church, 700 Washington St., Canton at 10:30AM. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4-8PM from the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington St., Canton. Interment will be private. NORTH FALMOUTH – Rose Perry, 97, of North Falmouth and formerly of Taunton, died on Feb. 20, 2016 after a short illness at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich. She was born in Taunton on April 14, 1918 to John and Mary (Costa) Amaral. The family moved to a farm in Raynham when Rose was eight. She was married for 61 years to Antone J. Perry until his death in 1997. In 1999, Rose moved to Bourne and in 2009 to North Falmouth. At the time of her retirement, she was employed as a student attendant at Wheaton College in Norton and had worked many years as a Home Health Aide in Taunton. She was a fan of New England sports teams, especially the Red Sox. An avid crocheter, she enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays, and hosting family dinners and gatherings. She leaves her daughters, Elizabeth Emond of Wareham, and Margaret Pelletier and her husband George of N. Falmouth; her grandchildren, Attorney Gary Pelletier of Providence, RI, Christopher Emond and his wife Amanda of N. Dighton, and Michele Lazzari and her husband Todd of Wareham; a brother, Clarence Amaral of Taunton; a sister, Alice Amaral of Taunton; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Manual and Alfred Amaral, as well as her sisters, Mary Pinto and Agnes Souza. Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Friday, Feb. 26th at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony Church, Taunton at 10 a.m. The family will be receiving visitors from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
